The different fonts and placement of letters refer to different comedians and their style, it is like accumulated voices, accumulated comedy culture on to the floor. It creates a feeling of a homogeneous community despite the different fonts, since they reveal each comedian's personality within the community.

How did you work with editing and copywriting to keep your quote concise but retain it’s meaning?

When choosing the quotes that were most memorable, I paid attention to the greater meaning or narrative that could be taken from the words. For the first example, I tried exploring opposite words and meanings and combine them. I kept the main idea through constructing a narrative I wanted the phrases to follow. By keeping the specific narrative in mind I was able to experiment with additional "plot lines" that could contribute to the greater message of the narrative. I also tried switching the person who is voicing the phrase, by altering the plural or singular person. I did not dwell into punctuation as much, as I was focused more on the context of the words. I tried to shorten the phrases as they were too long to be taken as they were. The "cutting out" process challenged me into being resourceful with the words I would omit or add, as I tried to be concise but effective. I also tried generalizing some terms into pronouns which is a pro and a con since a classmate was not sure about the audience I was referring to in my phrase, but this leads to more interpretations that are up to the viewer's personal experience.

Was your meaning interpreted how you intended it, and how did you use feedback to develop your work?

My phrase was "Do they know our freedom? Do you know my freedom?". My partner commented on how she was not sure who is "they", but she initially related the phrase to women's rights. The overall meaning, meaning that the phrase pertains to a communal experience, and how the phrase later switches to a more personal context was successful. I was not sure at first which of the two I should use. I was thinking keeping only the "Do they know our freedom?", but after discussing with my classmate I came to the conclusion to use both phrases. The more intimate phrase would be placed spatially further to indicate an intimate privacy, so as to show the contrast with the plural pronouns.

Explain your reasoning behind choosing the site – how did it relate to your message?

I decided to use the stanchions to show the separation between the community and the outsider, meaning how the spectator who is absorbing the phrase is literally outside of the community. "Do they know our freedom?". They face the physical barrier that is created through the stanchion to ask themselves if they truly understand the opposite side. I want to use multiple stanchions that are fading slowly background, to simulate the feeling of an echo but a lasting presence. The last stanchion will be "Do you know my freedom?", indicating that the spectator must pass through the collective stages of reflection to reach past through the community, to the individual. Since the stanchion will be further in the background, the phrase will also be smaller in terms of scale showing how individual, personal freedom can be unattainable and even concealed from the people closest to us. The original message I wanted to convey was whether people who are not free, who "are breathing in their confinement“ do not know or pretend they are unaware that there is something better even if that is unattainable. I was inspired by the quote "Ignorance is bliss". During the editing and copywriting process, the words were altered but I still wanted the main message to be how there is something else, perhaps better out there. I also wanted to reflect on the experiences of people living in confinement, to create a more intimate atmosphere as the spectator wants to learn what happened to the confined.
